Miele is a German manufacturer of premium domestic appliances and machines for commercial applications. Founded in 1899, by Carl Miele and Reinhard Zinkann, Miele remains a family-owned and family-run company today. Since its inception, Miele has zealously pursued a philosophy of Immer Besser or “Forever Better”. It epitomises Miele’s unwavering and uncompromising commitment to quality and innovation, and is applied to every aspect of the company’s products and operations. This dedication to being forever better drives Miele to constantly seek newer and better ways of contributing to and enhancing the quality of customers’ lives and is reflected in the legendary quality and durability of their products. This is why Miele continues to be a trusted, award-winning leader of the industry. In 2009, Miele received the highly coveted Best Brand award for the third year in a row from the GfK Group – Germany’s leading market research company – in recognition of its extraordinary brand strength. And, for the eighth year in a row, Miele was also named one of Europe’s Most Trusted Brands by Reader’s Digest Europe in its annual Trusted Brands consumer survey.
As the naming sponsor of The Miele Guide, Miele recognises and supports the publication’s role as a missionary for the top restaurants in Asia. Aligned with Miele’s own belief in immer besser and of accepting no compromise is The Miele Guide’s objective of honouring members of the Asian restaurant industry who constantly strive to excel in the culinary arts and who accept no compromise themselves in their desire to always deliver only their very best, giving us the opportunity to dine exceptionally well in Asia. Over the years, Miele has contributed towards many unique concepts upon a strong credo to encourage and support the vibrant Asian food and wine industry, as well as promote the enjoyment and understanding of good food. As part of this commitment to encouraging the food and wine industry in Asia, and in harmony with Miele’s own belief in seeking out potential, nurturing talent and making a positive contribution to people’s lives, Miele has jointly sponsored two scholarships this year, under the auspices of The Miele Guide Culinary Scholarship Programme, together with the highly respected culinary institution At-Sunrice GlobalChef Academy, in the hope that these two scholarships will give passionate young Asians the opportunity to refine their culinary skills and inspire them to attain their dream of becoming world-class chefs.
And as Miele’s principal focus and concern has been and always will be people that is why, this year, The Miele Guide has also sought to help not just a deserving few, but the greater number of hungry poor in Asia as well. The Miele Guide Restaurant Month programme brought together 57 restaurants, a majority of which were featured in the first edition of The Miele Guide that was launched last year. They created special menus that ran for the month of August, and 15 per cent of the revenue derived from these menus will be donated to the United Nations World Food Programme in Timor-Leste. Even during a time when so many companies are making drastic adjustments to meet tougher challenges, Miele has not stopped championing the joys of good food among the people of this diverse region. Over the years, Miele has continually encouraged the publication of outstanding food and wine titles, such as A Symphony of Taste, a stunning collection of 32 brand-new recipes expressly created for the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) by 10 of Singapore’s most talented emerging chefs, which was published just this year.
In 2007, Miele sponsored the publication of the first book by renowned wine connoisseur Dr NK Yong and his wife Melina, entitled Wine Dinners. This book has gone on to win two awards at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards 2008. Working with Filipino publisher Artpost Asia on the regional launches of Foodlore and Flavours: Inside the Southeast Asian Kitchen, a cookbook commissioned by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), also gave Miele the opportunity to help introduce the world to Asian delights. And, in 2006, Miele sponsored the publication of Singapore celebrity chef Justin Quek’s first cookbook, Justin Quek: Passion & Inspiration, and published their own book, entitled Steam, which features the recipes of eight of Asia’s best chefs. Miele also fully appreciates, and is extremely supportive of, outstanding events that bring food, wine and lifestyle together. This year, in a landmark initiative to encourage Singapore’s food and wine industry, Miele commissioned a new Channel NewsAsia television series, The Perfect Meal. This ground-breaking new reality show challenged six gifted chefs to reinvent classic local dishes and ultimately create an iconic meal, epitomizing modern Singapore, to be served at a banquet graced by His Excellency, President SR Nathan of Singapore. For many years too, Miele has participated in the annual World Gourmet Summit, Singapore’s major annual gastronomic event, as its Official Home Kitchen Appliance partner. Notably too, the Miele Active Kitchen has played host to many of the world’s most respected chefs.
Miele’s extensive range of kitchen and home appliances includes multi-functional ovens, steam ovens, hobs and cooker hoods, dishwashers, coffee makers, wine cellars, washing machines, tumble dryers, rotary ironers and vacuum cleaners.
