From the fertile imaginations of the creative geniuses behind the Tugu Hotels Group comes Lara Djonggrang restaurant. The colonial-era house was restored using genuine antiques to recreate the appearance of an ancient merchant’s dwelling and the food served is appropriately described as “imperial Indonesian cuisine”, based on the royal journeys made by King Hayam Wuruk, who ruled the Majapahit kingdom in the 14th century. The enthralling menu reads like a gastronomic map of the archipelago, with every dish bearing its own history. Artfully presented and masterfully prepared, even simple dishes such as soto kikil Curubaya (Surabayastyle oxtail soup, served with coriander, ginger and paprika) and sate lilit ikan Gianyar (Balinese fish satay) are a joy.
